Consultant/ Duty Solicitor for Criminal Department

Responsibilities:
As a Consultant/Duty Solicitor for our Criminal Department, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert legal advice and representation to clients in various criminal cases, including but not limited to, court appearances, police station attendance, and prison visits.
  • Conducting interviews with clients, gathering evidence, and preparing legal documentation such as witness statements, legal submissions, and briefs.
  • Representing clients in court proceedings, including bail applications, trials, and appeals.
  • Attending police stations to provide advice and assistance to individuals in custody.
  • Liaising with external agencies, such as the Crown Prosecution Service and the police, to collaborate on cases and seek necessary information.
  • Staying up to date with the latest developments in criminal law and procedure, ensuring compliance with legal regulations and professional standards.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • A valid practising certificate as a Solicitor and accreditation as a Duty Solicitor.
  • Extensive experience working as a Criminal Solicitor, ideally within a reputable law firm.
  • Strong knowledge of criminal law, legal procedures, and the criminal justice system.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and colleagues.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle a high caseload.
  • Proficiency in using relevant legal software and databases.

Conveyancing Department – Atlantic Road office (Brixton) - Legal Secretary: £22k - £26k (D.O.E)

 

Summary:

With a long established and well-earned reputation for excellence, Wainwright and Cummins LLP offer our clients a full range of high-class legal services for both businesses and individuals. The main duties of this role is to provide legal secretarial support to their supervising fee earner with a view to develop the paralegal support. The ability to learn on the job additional skills to assist in their duties that will enhance the fee earner ability to operate more effectively. This will include but will not be limited to the job role given below. The legal secretary is expected to use a high degree of self-management and initiative while working in a team. To provide speedy and cost effective support to the fee earners in the conveyancing team. To provide general administrative support to the Atlantic Road office and Acre Lane office if needed.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

Undertake certain elements of fee earning work under supervision. In particular:

  • Administrative duties including photocopying, scanning, filing, opening door, answering phones and letter writing;
  • File creation and client care correspondence;
  • preparing Stamp Duty forms;
  • Making appointments and arranging meetings;
  • preparing completion statements and invoices;
  • Preparing all necessary accounts forms and understanding client ledgers;
  • Preparing Land Registry applications and dealing with requisitions;
  • Producing first drafts of contracts, deeds and leases;
  • Dealing with pre‐completion requisitions;
  • Closing and archiving files;
  • Ensuring meeting rooms and working area are set up and cleared before and after meetings;
  • Deputise for fee earners in their absence;
  • Confident in passing urgent issues to another fee earners and asking for guidance;
  • Remain up-to-date with changes in the law.

 

Personal Specification/ Requirements:

  • Must have at least 3 years’ experience as a commercial property paralegal or higher;
  • Must have experience with the Land Registry portal and SDLT online;
  • Enthusiastic attitude;
  • Hardworking and can demonstrate initiative;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in dealing with a range of clients via telephone and face-to-face;
  • Well organised and good time keeping;
  • The ability to complete assigned tasks effectively and promptly;
  • A cheerful personality;
  • Adaptable and accommodating;
  • Good attention to detail;
  • IT competent, particularly with reference to the use of Word and Excel;
  • A good telephone manner and the ability to deal with clients;
  • Knowledge / experience working within a case management systems;
  • Accurate typing with a good sense of layout and presentation of letters and documentation.
