Mediators without Borders

  • Posted

Our very own Aneesha Bhunjun spent early October training young lawyers in Mediation at the University of Calcutta, one of the top three schools of law in India. Mediation is an alternative form of dispute resolution, quicker and cheaper than litigation, and used to resolve a matter without resorting to a rigid court ruling. More and more frequently, mediation is used to resolve issues, as a neutral mediator works to achieve the best possible outcome for all parties. Aneesha’s extensive experience as a mediator, and her previous work in India, advising the Governmental Legal Services in Delhi, made her uniquely qualified for this role.

The training sessions were facilitated through ADR-ODR International, a company in which Aneesha holds an executive role and alongside the CEO, Aneesha promoted the growing field of mediation abroad. ADR-ODR International is the first and only provider where delegates will graduate as a face to face mediator and an online mediator, with the ability to conduct mediation online, while an accreditation from ADR-ODR is recognised globally. This focus on online mediation enables ADR-ODR’s ability to resolve disputes worldwide, using the connectivity of the internet to encourage more peaceful methods of dispute resolution.

The first University in the world to offer mediation training, Aneesha described the course as an ‘absolute success.’ Aneesha and Rahim have been since approached to conduct the next training of practitioners by the University of Delhi, as well as attaining further mediation cases internationally.

At Wainwright and Cummins, we offer mediation as an alternative to litigation and provide a free 15 minute consultation on all new private cases.
